Falcade, with the Biois Valley, is also a renowned destination for aficionados of Nordic skiing, also known as cross-country skiing.<\/p>\n

The Biois Valley boasts an impressive, lengthy cross-country skiing tradition.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

A brief history and local athletes<\/h4>\n

It was just after the Second World War that young people started practising this sport, driven by a strong desire to put the nasty experience of war behind them and start living a normal life again. Initially, this activity was seen as a waste of time, something that distracted young people from their everyday duties. However, the growing interest and in enthusiasm for cross-country skiing in the valley led to the establishment of the first local sports associations, including the Val Biois Ski Club<\/strong>, which today continues to play an important role in introducing young people to the sport and providing training for the athletes. As early as the 1950s, the club began producing athletes who recorded impressive results at regional, national and international level, and who were soon good enough to take part in the Winter Olympics held in Cortina in 1956.<\/p>\n

Over the decades, dozens of local athletes who began skiing on the runs of the Biois Valley have been successful at national and international level: from Olympians in the 1960s such as Pietro Scola, after whom the Piana di Falcade run is named, to Franco Manfroi, in honour of whom the Gares run<\/strong> in Canale d\u2019Agordo<\/strong> is named, as well as present-day champions of the calibre of Fulvio Scola and Magda Genuin, who have represented Italy in recent years, achieving excellent results at international level.<\/p>\n

Cross-country skiing is a sport that lately has been winning back the importance it deserves, especially among young people. This is evident in all the hard work the Val Biois Ski Club invests in the discipline, offering its young athletes the chance to also try Nordic skiing, accompanying them into the world of competition, where they have achieved satisfying results.<\/p>\n

Nordic skiing is an activity that requires considerable dedication, concentration and physical strength, involving every muscle in the body. It has a major aerobic component, and requires a significant cardiovascular effort.<\/p>\n

But cross-country skiing is not only for talented, powerful athletes. It\u2019s a sport that\u2019s accessible to everyone when the focus is on the relaxing, healthy aspects to be enjoyed in the midst of nature. It\u2019s a healthy, spectacular discipline, given the environment it\u2019s generally enjoyed in, surrounded by woodland and in the valleys, in close contact with the silence of nature.<\/p>\n

With the above in mind, the cross-country runs in the Valley are able to meet the needs of both Nordic skiers that need highly technical, well-maintained runs for athletic training and those who simply enjoy quietly sliding through snow-covered woodland, savouring the fresh, cool area that regenerates mind and body.<\/p>\n

Cross-country skiing is an outdoor activity accessible to everyone. Economical and not particularly time-consuming, it doesn’t require very expensive technical equipment, and there are no queues and delays for accessing the runs.<\/p>\n

In the Biois Valley, beginners can try their hand at the discipline by taking part in the cross-country skiing courses organised by the local Falcade Italian Nordic Ski School<\/strong>, where both adults and children will find qualified instructors able to offer group and individual lessons in the Piana run in the centre of Falcade at the PIETRO SCOLA CROSS COUNTRY SKI CENTRE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

For all levels: basic, intermediate and higher.
\nThe Falcade Italian Nordic Ski School is open every day in winter from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on the Piana di Falcade plain.<\/p>\n

The Biois Valley offers two runs for skiing lovers:<\/p>\n

The PIETRO SCOLA CROSS COUNTRY SKI CENTRE<\/strong>, in the centre of Falcade, and the FRANCO MANFROI CROSS COUNTRY SKI CENTRE<\/strong> in the Gares Valley, in the municipality of Canale d\u2019Agordo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Both the runs are part of the SuperNordicSkipass circuit<\/strong>, which certifies cutting-edge cross-country ski centres that boast top-level facilities and high quality standards. \u201cPietro Scola\u201d Cross-Country Ski Centre \u2013 Falcade<\/h4>\n

The Pietro Scola Cross-Country Ski Centre<\/strong> is located in the centre of Falcade. The runs are superbly maintained, and are organised into round-trip trails of varying difficulty and length that make their way across the sunny, flat area in the centre of the village, as well as through the woods, offering splendid views for aficionados of the sport.
\nWith its approx. 10 km of trails, the run has a lighting system, so it can also be used at night twice a week. Equipment and snowshoe hire is available.
\nRoutes of varying difficulty can be selected, suitable for beginners right up to the more challenging trails that are also authorised to host FISI and<\/strong> FIS national<\/strong> and international competitions.
\nThe centre is part of the SuperNordic Skipass circuit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The cross-country skiing run, dedicated to the local athlete\u00a0Franco Manfroi, is at the\u00a0bottom of the Gares Valley, about 7 km from\u00a0Canale d\u2019Agordo.
\nThis\u00a0particularly technical route\u00a0is always well groomed, and winds its way for 7.5 kilometres through a unique natural landscape of woodland and frozen waterfalls.
\nThanks to the natural shape of the valley and its characteristically cold temperatures, natural snow is guaranteed until well into the season.<\/p>\n

The run is equipped with a changing room and showers, and equipment and snowshoe hire is available.<\/p>\n
