\u00a0Tabi\u00e0<\/h3>\n

The tabi\u00e0 <\/em><\/strong>are ancient traditional buildings typical of the Ladin area of the Dolomites. They were used in the past as stores for the hay and the rural tools.<\/p>\n

The ground floor was used as a barn for the animals. Val del Biois is full of these tabi\u00e0<\/em> and they usually are very big. This means that in the past times the valley was rich in animals and pastures and the rural works were prevalent.<\/p>\n

Every house had its own tabi\u00e0<\/em>, attached or very close to the main house.<\/p>\n

The most ancient tabi\u00e0<\/em> were built with one-piece trunks according to the blockbau technique, while the later\u00a0 technique used wooden boards.<\/p>\n

Every room of the tabi\u00e0 had its own purpose: Stalot: <\/em>little barn next to the big barn; d\u00e8da: <\/em>a kind of storeroom; Soler: <\/em>terrace for the hay drying; era basa: <\/em>first floor; era auta: <\/em>second floor; arch\u00e8r: <\/em>a sort of rural attic.<\/p>\n

On the tabi\u00e0<\/em> made with wooden boards you can often see the barcon\u00e8le, <\/em>a sort of fretwork patterns used as decoration as well as ventilation system.<\/p>\n

On the top of the roof there was the date of the buiding together with the family insigna and a metal blessed cross. Somewhere around the tabi\u00e0 people used to hide blessed objects as\u00a0 coins or rosaries together with the figure of Sant Antonio Abate as a sign of protection.<\/p>\n

Tabi\u00e0<\/em> are important now for the valley as\u00a0 they represent the link between past and present and nowadays there are very strict rules which assure their preservation.<\/p>\n
